DECEMBER COMPETITION LAW NEWS – AFRICA

The Competition Authority of Kenya (the “CAK”) has launched investigations into the involvement of Tuskys Supermarket (“Tuskys”) with rival Ukwala, in relation to Tusky’s possible acquisition of some of Ukwala’s outlets. Tuskys has reportedly been running three Ukwala stores ahead of a complete rebrand of the outlets. Mr Francis Kariuki Wang’ombe, Director-General of the CAK, has stated that the CAK was not notified of the acquisition and is seeking to determine the nature of the transaction.
