Jerry Kaapu is a partner in our Employment & Benefits Practice in Johannesburg and has B.Proc and LLB degrees from the University of the Western Cape. Jerry was admitted as an attorney in 1998 and has been a partner since 2001 specialising in employment law.
Jerry has represented a diversity of clients in litigation and private arbitrations at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), the Bargaining Councils, the Labour Court and the Labour Appeal Courts. Jerry is an industrial relations trainer, mediator and arbitrator and has served as a prosecutor, initiator and chair in many disciplinary inquiries.
Jerry’s practice is centred largely on advising corporate and public sector clients on various aspects of employment law, which include but not limited to, effective collective bargaining, fair employment policies and practices, effective management of strikes, review of arbitration awards and/or judgments, rescission of default arbitration awards and/or judgments, management and implementation of restructuring exercises, conducting investigations, conducting disciplinary inquiries, managing fair dismissals, effective management of industrial relations, and effective management of litigious matters.
Jerry is a member of the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) and has served as an executive committee member, and as deputy president, of the Gauteng Chapter.
Jerry has been appointed as an acting judge of the Labour Court in 2016.
Jerry has served as non-executive director of several companies and has also served as a trustee of several Trusts.
